abs wheel sensor

abs wheel sensor

how do i clean a wheel sensor? my abs inop light came on and when i had it checked it was the wheel sensor and i was told that i can clean them and it may start working again.

take the sensor out and wipe it off. try using compressed air to blow any debris form the reluctor wheel area. usually dirt will not interfere with abs sensor operation. unless its exessive like if your brakes went meatal to metal and the sensor was coverd in meatal shavings. more than likely you will have to replace the sensor.

Only the rear sonsors can be removed. The front sensors are mounted in the front hub assemblies and are not able to be serviced.

Generally, cleaning won't accomplish a thing as they are magnetic. Your gonna have to replace it unless the plug is just loose or something.

good point i forgot the front sensors were not removable. what sensor did it se a code for?

I also have this problem sometimes.

it seems that the light comes on when it is very cold out and is fine when it is warmer.

the whole thing seems weird to me

my prob was the headers on the pass side burned the wires in two. trace your wires from the wheels back.

Did you check brake fluid level???? Also the neg ground on the passenger side fender well????
