Another RJS 5 pt harness question
Last week I tried to install the harness with the stock seat belt bolts. The first one I tried it stripped the threads because the bracket does not fit in the right position on the carpet. The thread is 12mm. Any suggestions on how to properly install this thing, seems to be a PITA!
Thanks,
Ed

Re: Another RJS 5 pt harness question
With my Simpson belts, the diameter of the unthreaded "shoulder" of the stock seat belt bolts is slightly larger than the hole in the harness mounting clip. That prevents the clip from sliding up onto the shoulder, and causes the threads to not reach deep enough into the metal pad under the floor. I found that by carefully grinding down the diameter of the shoulder on the stock bolts, the clip would slide up onto the shoulder like it is supposed to, and allow the threaded portion of the stock bolt to extend fully into the pad under the floor. What appeared to be a stripped thread turned out to be simply a problem of the threads not reaching deep enough into the stock pad. Might want to check and see if this is similar to your problem.

Re: Another RJS 5 pt harness question
Fred,
Yep, that is exactly correct. I think a better solution may be to get some new bolts from the hardware store with more thread. I know the thread is 12x1.75 because I purchased a metric tap and die set for that semi-stripped thread.
Thanks for you input

Re: Another RJS 5 pt harness question
If you make the hole in the clip bigger, you are weakening the clip. Carefully reducing the diameter of the bolt shoulder isn't going to affect anything, since the root of the bolt threads is the weak point.
