Anyone done their own hard brake lines?

I did a boo-boo when I dropped my stock K member, and need new lines with the spring 'gravel' protectors.

After searching and reading hundreds of posts, it is probably time to either replace ALL the hardlines and flush/fill the system.
I have a Baer setup to replace both the front and rear, and stainless braid lines for all the flexible parts. Since all 4 wheels will be disconnected, I figure it is a good time to replace everything.

Has anyone done their own?

How hard is it to bend and flare the line?

I don't mind spending the coin on the neat Eastwood flare tool, but my past experience with tubing was a PITA. It either kinked, broke or leaked at the fitting. Admittedly I was using an el cheapo flare tool.

Actually ALL my past experiences with brakes (except shoes or pad replacement) has totally sucked. Either someone letting off the pedal too soon when you are bleeding them, or you get brake fluid squirted on the engine for smoke later, or even get squirted in the eye.

I do have a vacuum pump and a bleeder tool, but have not tried it yet. Hopefully that will make bleeding them easier.

I suppose I could put in a line lock for the front brakes while I am at it.

Thanks

I'd recommend InlineTube.com - they're local to me and I purchased a full stainless steel hardline set for 93-97 w/ ABS for $185 + tax & S&H. Awesome price for what it is. Everything comes pre bent and formed for you. Although shipping might be a PITA because of the line that goes from the ABS to the rear end.

I agree with meissenation. If there is an inexpensive source for pre-bent lines go for it. Bending all the lines and having them look good is difficult and very time consuming.

I've bent the lines for race cars before. It is very time consuming but not that difficult. The hardest part is making a quality flare on the end that doesn't leak. It is pretty simple to do once you get the hang of it though.

Thanks for all the input.

I think I will buy the tubing complete, just to save time, and also buy the flare tool from Eastwood with some extra fittings.
I want to add a line loc, and possibly need to add a proportining valve, so I will need to make a couple of short lines or splices.

Then I have the tool in case I need it later or I break a line again. If I think I will drop the K member / engine again, I swear I want to put splices near the K member under the abs module so I don't have to bend and snake them out again. That was where I broke one line already.
