Best set of skinnies

I am looking for a set of skinnies for the front of my car. Any recommendations? I am looking for the lightest set I can find. Thanx for all the help!

Do you want them strictly for the track, or are you planning to use them on the street? That will affect the answer, since the lightest available wheels are not recommended for street use, and the skinniest tires are not safe on the street.

They will only be used for the track, weight transfer purpose. How ever if you wouldn't mind telling me the best for the track only and the best ones for the street. Thanks Alot!

Re: Best set of skinnies

I like the Moroso DS-2's for the track. I run a 26x4.5-15. Can't recommend a "street" skinnie, because I wouldn't run one. A buddy of mine had his 17x9 30th SS wheels narrowed to 17x6.5, and ran something like a 205/55-17 on them. Was sort of "OK" on the street, but the 4,000# convertible seemed to "plow" in the corners with those on the front and 315/35's on the back.

He also learned they wern't the best choice for the track, when he dropped it hard from a 3-foot wheel stand and the edge of the rim cut right through the tire sidewall and the car went into the wall.

Re: Best set of skinnies

Just get some Pro Stars or Draglites from Weld. The tires required for them are a 165r15 metric radial(OEM from a VW bus). They're just fine on the street (ran them for several years).

If you go track only, ET Fronts or DS-2s are the best bet since they're lighter than the radial tire.

I am very happy with my one piece forged Weld Alumastar 2.0's. They are very light and fit with out spacers. I will not run them on the street because of the cost to replace one if I hit a pothole.
