Bilstein shocks

I found a couple of these rear shocks at a local wrecking yeard that I bought for cheap. Is there any way to tell if they are any good before i put them on? I'm not much of a suspension guy so bear with me please.

Shocks

You can take the shocks in both hands and pull them out and push them,it should be quite hard to do.
