Exclamation Break Problems

I have a 2002 Z28 and it has 25K miles. When I am at Highway speeds and hit the break pedal, my steering wheel shakes really bad. Does anyone know why this is happening? How can I fix it? Thanks.

Re: Break Problems

If you don't want them to warp prematurely again, then go aftermarket ... I don't know which brands are best though?? (I mean, good, without being overly expensive? )

Re: Break Problems

What causes the rotors to warp in the first place? This wont happen with aftermarket? Thanks Capn.

Re: Break Problems

The warpage is usually caused by high levels of heat and friction causing the rotors to lose thier shape. It all depends on which aftermarket brand you decide to go with, I would suggest just replacing the rotor(s) with GM OEM Replacments because I have seen TOO many cracked aftermarket cross-drilled rotors. Good Luck!

Re: Break Problems

1) To clarify, a brake is a stopping mechanism whereas a break is a pause or a split.
2) Good chance it's your rotors as already mentioned
3) GM replacements are a bad choice
4) drilled are a bad choice
5) one of the best replacements are Brembo rotors, available at Tire Rack among many other places
6) It's probably the fronts since that's where the most heat is generated
7) It's not a permanent fix, but you can have your current rotors checked and "turned" at a brake shop to machine them flat again. If you're tight on cash, no sense in buying new rotors until you're sure it's warped rotors causing your problems.

Re: Break Problems

check the balance on your tires

its very stupid, but its very possible a shimmy is the problem

a weight could have fallen off or if u drive like me, your tires are bald and the natural imperfections in the tire that brough the weight are no longer there, again resulting in an imbalance

Re: Break Problems

Problem fixed it was my front rotors, they were warped. I had them machined. The steering wheel problem is fixed. Thanks for your help guys.
