bump steer

I have had this problem with the car since I got it so i don't know any differently, maybe they are just like that. But everytime im on the road and hit a bump the steering wheel jerks and the car wants to go squirly and go off course. I have 275's but don't think that should make a huge difference. Is there any way to correct this or adjust so everytime i hit a bump im not struggling with it.

We have bad roads here and if the road is uneven my car will pull to one side or the other. On the freeway if there are ruts it is even worse but never did it with the 255's i use to have. I went with 275's up front and it started immediately. I thought the tires were bad until i read a bunch of posts and see it get worse the wider the tires get.

I noticed my trans am had this problem more with 275's in the front than my old camaro did with 245's in the front. However, the most important thing is making sure you have a proper alignment. Are your front tires wearing unevenly? An out of spec alignment can cause the car to go darting every which way when you hit an uneven road.

I have a street/track front alignment, newer 275's, and a rag joint eliminator and the car will lightly follow some potholes, but not to the point where I'll have to actively correct to stay on path.

BTW...there's a separate suspension forum where this belongs and you could probably get better answers there.

I defiantly noticed this also, when switching to 275's and 295's was a little unnerving at first but have since gotten used to it

It's just something you have to get used to, when I went from 245/50/16's to 275/40/17's I noticed this aswell.

+1 here. My '96 had 16" rubber and it was downright docile compared to the SS with 17's.

I am getting used to it also, but it is a bit unnerving if you are new to it.
