Bump Stop Recommendation

I cut off my stock rear bump stop mounts for a clearance issue, but don't want to run without bump stops. I've been looking at some different options and have come up with these so far:

1. Mount some kind of bump stop to the rear axle tube itself, I believe I could fab something up using a U-bolt and a "longer" bump stop, ensuring that it was installed at the correct heighth.
2. I've seen bump stops installed on the shock shaft itself that are nothing more than poly or rubber bushings. This would be a very easy option, but I'm not sure it would protect the axle tube.
3. Welding in a mount near where the stock bump stops were located. This would seem to be the most optimum solution, but the most difficult.

Just wanted to get some input from people that might have some experience in this area.

Thanks.

Re: Bump Stop Recommendation

I have 2 friends running 17 X 11 rims in the rear. They were able to grind the bracket of the stock bump stops to provide rim clearance, but still retain the bump stop feature. Not sure if that was your clearance issue.

Bump stop bracket is gone. I'm looking for alternatives.

Re: Bump Stop Recommendation

Hi
I cut mine off 2 years ago. I found a couple rubber bump stops at my work. They look similar to to the ones found on a set of traction bars(leaf springs)
They are round and have a threaded 3/8's hole in the back. I cut off a couple bolts I had laying around to use as a studs. Then I made plates(1/4 thick) that fit right where the bulge sticks out where you cut off the factory stops. I drilled the plate so I could take the stud and stick it through the plate and use jam nuts to make the stops adjustable (up and down). The stud will go in behind the bulge (If you cut your bulge off then you will have make this a little different).

Once you get the plates shaped the way you want. Then weld them on and smooth up the weld a little and undercoat the plates to match your inner fenders.

I know you will ask for pics but I dont have any and I won't have time to take any for a couple days. But if you guys want pics Email me and I will send pics in a couple days
