C5/Z06 Calipers

Has anyone, or does anyone know, if the C5/Z06 FRONT calipers can be directly installed in place of the LS1 calipers?

I know I would need brackets if I was going to use the larger C5 rotors, but that is not my plan.

I plan on only replacing the LS1 calipers with the C5/Z06 calipers, and continuing to use the LS1 rotor.

No, search under Bob Bishop.

May I ask why you want to do this? They're almost the same caliper. Anyways, I believe the mounting points are in the same location. So you should be able to bolt them onto the stock steering knuckles.

Because it is my understanding that they are the same but for the actual manufacturing process, which the C5 is better.

Re: C5/Z06 Calipers

Ls1 are gravity cast. C5 are pressure cast and less prone to flexing from heat.

Re: C5/Z06 Calipers

you also have a greater pad contact patch.

Re: C5/Z06 Calipers

The C5/Z06 front calipers actually are wider (not by much), and have smaller pistons. If you aren't upgrading the diameter, then I wouldn't change them. The pedal will actually feel less solid than the stock calipers. They take the same brake pad, so contact is no different.

But you are right, they are pressure cast, and can handle more abuse.

Re: C5/Z06 Calipers

you get a better pad area, better pistons, larger caliper, better selection of pads, cheaper pads, more efficient use of brake fluid. there are many reasons to upgrade to the c5 calipers. and you can use the cheaper ls1 rotors.

The pedal will actually feel MORE solid, not less. The smaller diameter pistons require less fluid displacement so you have a shorter, firmer stroke. What they give up is mechanical advantage; so you need to press the pedal slightly harder.

The C5 front pads have 9.6% more pad area than the LS1 front pads. This also applies to aftermarket pads which follow the GM backing plate/friction material pattern.

My source is Team Chevrolet. The pricing below is for those who buy the complete C5 brake conversion package; I don’t know if they will sell the rotors alone at that price. Can’t hurt to ask. I would ask for Gale in parts if you want the special pricing; the other salesmen couldn't find the less expensive GM C5 rotors in their computer. (800) 658-4017.

Alternate low-cost Delco Durastop C5 front rotors:
Right front - 88925547 $18.81
Left front - 88925548 $18.81

Re: C5/Z06 Calipers

From good ol Napa. Nothing special (I'd rather have gotten GM ones, but they were $65 each - no good pricing for me)

UBP 86700 (right front)
UBP 86701 (left front)

I think they're probably like $24-$25 now, I bought mine like a year ago.

I think I worded it wrong.. I did mean that I had to press harder on the brakes.

Are you still doing your conversion kit?

What is the actual size of the LS1 rotor vs the C5 rotor?

Will the C5 calipers mount to the LS1 steering knuckles directly?
If so, would there be any problem using the LS1 rotors?
