C5/ZO6 brakes on an early 4th gen?
#1
![Question](https://www.camaroz28.com/forums/images/icons/icon5.gif)
I can get a discount on stock brake parts so I was wondering if an upgrade to the C5/ZO6 braking system would be worth the money on a 95 Z28 Vert? Will doing this mod increase my stopping power a lot or will the difference be small? Also besides pads, rotors, and calipers would their be anything else I would need to buy to do this? I know slotted and cross drilled rotors are all the rage today but I would just as happy with the stock smooth look.
Thanks for the help.

You might want to consider swapping in a 98-02 brake system- larger rotors, dual piston calipers up front. Should reduce brake fade fairly well. That would be noticeable but not a night and day difference. Plus, it's fairly cheap, you could get them in the for sale section possibly or else most salvage yards will have them.
Do you still have 16" rims? Hopefully someone will give you an answer on whether the Vette stuff will fit or not, since they only come with 17" or higher it's not something people usually worry about.

You need an adaptor bracket for the C5 conversion. You can't just replace the existing caliper and rotors without the bracket.
Yes, the C5 upgrade is a big step up, but you need 17" rims, and not all 17" rims work with the C5 conversion.
A good set of pads will make a big difference with the stock LT1 brakes. Where the C5 conversion shines is during autox and road coarse events.
The LS1 upgrade is an excellent choice.

Re: C5/ZO6 brakes on an early 4th gen?
I run LS1 brakes with C5 rotors. There is no reason to get the C5 or Z06 calipers because they are nearly identical to the LS1 parts and will cost a ton more. I also installed Power Slot rotors and Hawk HPS pads. Overall it's an OH MY GOD!
night and day difference.
My brakes are a tight fit in my SS ZR1 rims, no way they would ever fit in a 16" rim.

Well lets not get crazy here... the C5 calipers are barely more than the LS1 stuff second hand, and they are NOT the same.
1) C5 calipers are pressure-cast, not gravity cast.
2) C5 calipers have stiffening ribs accross the bridge, LS1 ribs are just heat fins on the rear.
3) C5 calipers use slightly smaller pistons making C5 rebuild kits (or stainless steel pistons) impossible to use on LS1's.
4) C5 pad abutement brackets are required for the C5 rotor... don't use the LS1 bracket even if you do go with the LS1 calipers.
Better off with the C5 IMO... and they're just as cheap as any used LS1 calipers.

I have C5 calipers i'm looking to get rid of if your interested. But you said you could get parts for cheap though. I just figured i'd throw it out there.

C5 calipers are also less prone to 'spreading' under hard abuse than the LS1 calipers. LG Motorsports sells a kit for the C5 upgrade. A man named Bob Bishop used to produce the caliper adaptors for F-Body spindles, but he did his last set last month. They are GREAT quality and very good price. I had a set, then sold my Auto-x car so I JUST shipped mine out yesterday to their new owner. ![Frown](https://www.camaroz28.com/forums/images/smilies/frown.gif)
