Caliper mounting bolts - safety question
I have an LS1 brake upgrade waiting to go on my 94, but I had to track down the caliper mounting bolts separately. The dealer that I found only had three of the actual GM part numbered bolts that I needed. So, I went to Lowe's and found a bolt with the same length, threads, etc, and bought one of those to finish out the set.
My question is, are the GM bolts of a higher strength than the off the shelf one I picked up from Lowe's, and if so, would there be any risk of the Lowe's bolt breaking. These bolts are fairly substantial, and it would take a heck of a force to snap one, but I wanted to consult the board and see if anyone had any insight.
I know the caliper mounting bolts on the rear are really weak (I snapped one off with little effort) from the factory. Any thoughts? thanks.

Re: Caliper mounting bolts - safety question
You would have to check the "tic" marks on the bolt head to determine the grade strength. Typically GM uses Grade 8 hardened for brake hardware. I doubt that the bolt from Lowes is that high.
Personally, I wouldn't use it. If you DO use it, only use it till the dealership can order another correct bolt.
