Can't get LCA to stop banging

Hi guys,

I'm sort of a noob and tried to find an answer but can't.

I installed some BMR boxed subframe connectors and still have stock lower control arms. I can't seem to get the drivers side upper bolt tight enough. If I go over a sharp bump, like in construction zones where they're ripping up the blacktop, I'll hear the loud bang from the suspension. I got the passengers side tight enough.

It seems like the tabs from the SFC is preventing me from tightening down the LCA’s bracket enough. I sort of don’t understand why you have to tighten them so much. I would think the bushing is held in place by the bolt, but it would seem it’s held into place by the pinching friction of the tabs. I know that doesn’t sound clear… but do you follow?

Thanks for any help,
Bart

Edit:I'm sorry.. I think this belongs in Suspension, Chassis and Brakes... can you move a thread after you post it?

Re: Can't get LCA to stop banging

I know exactly what you are talking about. Mine does that too, except more often than just construction zones. And the bolts are torqued to 135 ft lbs! I don't know what else to do. I've tried taking clamps and bending the tabs, but it didn't help. I would love some suggestions also.

Re: Can't get LCA to stop banging

I also have the problem that you are talking about. The rear of my car used to be relatively quiet, but then I installed some BMR bolt in relocation brackets. Don't get me wrong, the brackets are amazing, but the rear end bangs every time I hit a decent bump in the road. I've tried tightening the bolts, but I fear I'll break them. If anyone knows a fix for this, please feel free to jump in. Thanks.

Re: Can't get LCA to stop banging

I have mine so tight I fear I'll break the bolts if I try to tighten them any more. HELP. This can't be that hard.

Re: Can't get LCA to stop banging

I hate to bump this and troll for an answer but there just has to be someone with advice. I don't quite understand how the upper arm connects to the car. I meen, I know you put the bolt through it but why does it matter how tight it is. Shouldn't the bolt hold the metal tube in the middle of the bushing? Or does the pinching force of the bracket hold the metal tube?

How can I(we) stop this sucker from banging? Just tighten it down more?

Re: Can't get LCA to stop banging

You have to compress the bushing in the LCA, but the bolt does take the force as shear.
