Chopping Stock Springs?

Chopping Stock Springs?
I know its a bad idea to cut the stock springs to lower a car.. blah blah. What I cant see doing is spending $200 on a set of Eibachs, not having the exact ride I want and start cutting on them. I figure if I get a good set of shocks like the HDs from Strano then hopefully they will keep the ride decent. 1-1.5" is all the further Id drop my car anyway so Im not really afraid the spring rate will change enough to cause problems with bottoming out the suspension. I was thinking either Id just cut off half to full coil or heat the springs and add spacers to keep them from dropping too far and quenching them with water to stiffen them back up for a solid ride. What do you guys think?

There was a guy here called Nuke 61 who cut his springs. I don't know if he's still around, though.
I've heard that if you use a torch you will ruin the spring, you have to use a cut off wheel instead.
But if you remove enough to lower the car a1.5 inches I'd bet you will bottom out a lot.
