Re: convertible rollbar

The Wolfe Racecraft bar seems to be the most popular.

Re: convertible rollbar

NHRA requires 5-point roll bar for convertibles running between 13.49 - 10.00-seconds. Below 10.00 (or over 135MPH), you need a full cage, certified and tagged by NHRA.

A 5-point consists of the 2 points for the hoop, 2 braces to the rear, and one brace on the drivers side going forward, between the driver's shoulder and elbow (2+2+1=5).

A 4-point will not be acceptable by NHRA under any circumstances. Adding the "sixth" point by placing a similar forward brace on the passenger side is OK. You can also add a diagonal brace from each side of the hoop to the floor, and that will make it an 8-point bar. But all you need to be NHRA legal is a 5-point.

You'll have to ask someone who owns a convertible about how usable the rear seat is, but it appears the Wolfe does not interfere with the seat. Keep in mind that a rear seat passenger might be exposed to hitting his/her head on the roll bar in a panic stop. Also keep in mind that the front seat passengers may be exposes to hitting their heads on the bar, when not wearing helmets.

Finally, NHRA also requires a 5-point harness. The ones you can buy, while rated by SFI to be fully capable of protecting you in a severe crash, are not DOT approved, and are (to be technically correct) not legal for street use. That requires that you keep your stock belts along with the 5-point harness.
