Unhappy Dead Spot

My Z is developing a dead spot in the middle of the steering. Is correcting this just a matter of getting an alignment, or something more complex?

I'm not 100% sure about this, but I think i've heard that a worn steering U joint can cause play at the center of the steering.

could be worn out idler arm, front contral arm bushings etc.
