DO I need another spare tire for the LS1 brake conversion on a LT1?

If I convert my '95 LT1 car to the LS1 brakes, do I need to get another spare tire or will my factory LT1 spare still fit?

The factory spare will not fit with the 13" C5 brakes. You have to go to a uninflated GTO spare with a CO2 canister or maybe a C5 spare..not sure if it will fit in the compartment though.
I'm thinking that the LT1 spare will work since the 98-02 V6 cars have the same brakes as the LS1 cars and they have 16" wheels which is what the LT1 cars had...heck come to think of it, a friend has a '99 non-WS6 TA with 16" rims exactly the same as my '95.

I have read on here more than once that the LT1 spare will not fit on LS1 brakes but I haven't tried it myself.

I hadn't even thought about that... I guess I can get rid of the spare since it won't work anyway.

If it doesn't fit, in a pinch you could move a rear tire up front and mount the spare on the rear.

LT1 spares will not fit LS1 brakes. The spare was changed for 98 and later cars. I have been told that 97 cars got the later spare but I don't know if it is true.

I got a spare at a junk yard for $20. You could also just carry a can of sealer/inflater. As far as I know the C5 never came with a spare. It uses runflat tires or came with a can of inflater on models that didn't have the runflat tires.

I forgot about the run flats on Vetts Didn't know they changed the spare...ok, guess I need to go to the junk yard and find one.... It would be difficult I think to get my rear wheel to mount on the front, its a 17x11 rim with 315s mounted on it

The C4 spare fits over the Baer 13" Track Kit; likely it would work with the C5 brake setup.

If you do a search, there is a pretty good write up of using the GTO spare wheel, with an RX-8 spare tire. The GTO spare wheel, along with the tire that comes mouthed on it, will not fit in the spare time well of 4th gens, deflated or not! Ask me how I know. The GTO spare wheel, and RX-8 spare tire is what I use now, and it only fits in the spare tire well deflated. You can buy one of those roadside fix-a-flat kits that come with sealer, and a mini compressor in a kit, and I have that tucked behind the spare setup. Here is the link to that thread: http://web.camaross.com/forums/showt...ight=GTO+spare

Yes, just to clarify, this info is for the 13" C5 brake conversion above.
For the LS1 conversion to 12" brakes, I just need a spare tire from an LS1 or 98 or newer fbody.

I guess I will have to find this out for fact... I'm guessing this would be the case since my 97 has the same rims that are used on the 98-02s, I guess I will not know for sure until I finally get my LS1 kit finally installed.

Re: DO I need another spare tire for the LS1 brake conversion on a LT1?

The owner of the junk yard I got the later model spare from is the one who told me the 97 spare was the same as the 98 and later models. This junk yard is a Camaro specialty yard so it is probably true. Check your spare and if the rim has a lot of holes in the side it is the later spare. If it is a solid rim it is the early spare. I think the later one uses a 16" tire and the early one a
15" tire but I am not positive.

worse case take your back tire off and put the smaller spare on there and move the back tire to the front
