do i need a tech 2?
i finished my brakes, after more problems than i want to admit....i blead the lines...everything good there. the pedal is rock hard when the car is off. when i turn the car on, it still feels really firm but the TCS OFF and ABS INOP light are on. can i fix this myself, or do i need to take it to the dealership and have them use a tech 2?
also note: i used the predator, there are no codes present.

did u try and diconnect the battery for 20min, see if the codes clear, if not, yea your gonna need to get it scanned. what exactly did you do the the brakes? New lines, pads, rotors??

no...i didnt think disconnecting the battery would work...but i will try that. why wont my predator pick up the codes?
i did all....pads, lines, rotors, painted calipers.

Re: do i need a tech 2?
disconneting the battery will reset the PCM after 20 min or so..
the predator is not a scan tool, it's basically the same thing as a hypertech programmer. Just there to adjust air/fuel ratios',adjust speedo for gear changes, and other little stuff. it's not suppose to scan the PCM for trouble codes i dont think.
if the PCM doesnt reset the codes after that, i would get it scanned at a dealer or Autozone... im sure others will chime in with some help

Re: do i need a tech 2?
I disconnected the battery for a few hours. turned the car back on, and same deal. ABS INOP light and TCS OFF light still on. but the pedal feels rock hard. also, the predator does scan for trouble codes, but i guess this is a different type of code. is it safe to drive on, or do i have to have it towed to the dealer?

Re: do i need a tech 2?
Try driving down your street at like 15mph see if ya got pressure, im sure it will be fine, cause i have driven my car with the ABS inop light on before, but i disconnected the battery and the light was cleared, but i also have a OBD-1 which isnt as sensitive opposed to your OBD-2

UPDATE -
even though the lights are on...i went for a drive today. everything seems fine. car stops on a dime and throws back a nickle. just gonna take it in and have the codes cleared.
also, is it normal for a new brake set up to make some noise? i am hearing a rubbing sound from the rears...much like if the rotors were warped...but thats not right seing they only have 10 miles on them. also, on the first few full stops...upon 0mph, there was a louder sound. almost like a bang. but that went away after a few stops. is this all normal?

Re: do i need a tech 2?
note too self...inspect ALL abs/tcs censors before re-installing wheels. left rear censor got disconnected.
so, to answer my own question...no, i [you] dont need a tech 2 to bleed the brakes on an ABS/TCS car.

Re: do i need a tech 2?
you beat me to it, it's the wheel sensor. You leave one unpluged and it throws a code--cause your ABS isn't working. I have had a few friends do the same thing. Dang and i thought i was going to nail this one from the beginning. Good job on trouble shooting your problem.
First thing that should come to your mind if you see a light is a faulty sensor/you forgot to plug one in (or of course an actual danger reading...lol--like your coolant is 250 degrees ), if the car is running properly.
