Dual piston brakes?

I have an '88 Trans Am with a rear end out of a '98 Trans Am convertible. Sadly, its a 2.73 like my stock 10-bolt was before I blew it. Anyways, my rear right brake has been making a lot of noise so I got the rotors re-cut. Didn't fix it, but it did fix the squeaking noise they were constantly making. Now it only squeaks when I hit the brakes on that side. When pulling everything apart, I found I couldn't press the piston in the caliper...even with no brake fluid (disconnected from line).

So anyways, I call up the local parts stores and Murray's tells me that they have a dual-piston caliper listed as the only one in stock for a '98 Trans Am's rear brakes. Not even an option for "performance brakes" so I didn't get it much. So I had them look up a Camaro of the same year and it listed a single piston caliper for a bit more money than the one listed for the Trans Am. ($44 vs. $35).

Did any cars have dual piston REAR brakes? Maybe he looked up the front even though I had him double-check. Did ALL '98 Trans Ams use dual-piston FRONT calipers, or just the WS6/SSs?

Re: Dual piston brakes?

all 98+ f-bodies had the same discs, 2 piston front and single rears. They are, however, referred to as "LS1" brakes, referring to the body style.

Re: Dual piston brakes?

Hmmm maybe he looked up the front caliper then or something. Thanks for the info. I'll get that replaced ASAP then. If they had the option of dual-piston calipers, I was going to wait it out and upgrade both rears to dual-piston next spring. Thanks for the help
