Question FE4 Suspension

The later F-cars had an optional suspension package. This was listed as "Special Ride & Handling" Suspension with an RPO code of FE4.

Does anyone know specificaly what this package included and how it was different than the base suspension?

Thanks.

It is, but the Camaro/Firebird had its own version of it too

FE2 Suspension System Ride Handling
FE4 Suspension System Special Ride and Handling
FE7 Suspension System Frt & RR HD

Those were suspension RPO codes.

I was wondering what each entailed as far as springs, shocks, etc.

Why don't you guys post this in the AutoX & RR section

I would figure that there should be a knowledgable suspension junkie over there who could give you an answer.

HHmmm, after a little research, looks like maybe its more of a firebird/transam option, I found a list of part numbers and ran across this, part numbers for springs

22132887 / 22132889
(ZR, HS) 1998 Camaro Z28 1LE
(ZM, TJ) 2000 Trans Am WS6 FE4
(ZM, TJ) 2000 Trans Am FE2
(ZL, TH) 2000 Formula NHRA FE2

Yeah, I saw these springs that were from a WS6 TA Vert at a bone-yard, and they were supposedly from a FE4 car.

What I wanted to know is, if they would be any better than say, stock LT1 or LS1 Z28 springs.

I wonder what the spring rate for them is?

Im Sure they are. It looks to be like its the equivilent of a 1LE, in which the front springs are 360lb/in and the rear is 130-170lb/in (progressive)

A little off topic.

I have the RPO FE2.

1998 Camaro Z28. It says Touring Car Suspension for the description. (I have all the info on my car from GM)

I think the FE4 is an upgraded suspension for WS6's. But I'm not sure.

Re: FE4 Suspension

Resurrecting this old thread, one thing I found doing research is that the part numbers for 1LE and FE7 front lower control arms are the same. I'm about to order some, so I will report back what they look like.

Re: FE4 Suspension

I have the FE4 option on my '94. I tried to find a stiffer spring through GM (1le) and can't go aftermarket lowering spring due to end of driveway clearance. If I recall correctly, the FE4 and 1le were very close if not the same spring. Also WS6 came up alot and the orig. salad shooter wheels have WS6 cast on the inside of the wheel (do they all have that?). With Hotchkiss LCAs, PHB, sway bars frnt & rear and Edlebrock TA, it's a very stiff and unforgiving ride. This is with orig. shocks. With the beefier sway bars, the car feels like it's on a rail around corners. I couldn't get spring rates but from the cross-reffing they are about the stiffest factory spring GM made.
