Fresh C5 Brake Upgrade

Just finished upgrading my stock POS LT1 brakes to the C5 corvette brakes. The install came out very nice and very clean. All the hardware is at least Grade 8, and the pads in the calipers now are MORSE-CERAMIC. They are fairly crappy pads, but I figured I could use them for just driving around town and they should be good enough for a blast through the canyons once or twice. I also have a set of the Hawk HP+ pads for serious driving, and with the new setup, its only a 20 minute job to replace both sides with the new pads, so Im not so worried there.

All in all I’m pretty happy with the setup. The rotors are stock vette rotors in 12.8” diameter, the pads are MORSE-CERAMIC as mentioned above and the lines are Earls Stainless braided hoses. I think I still have a little air in the line though, so I figure I will just drive around for a week or so, then go in and re-torque all the bolts and fasteners and re-bleed the brakes to get the rest of the air out.

Oh, pictures can also be seen at http://www.socalmuscle.com/bigbrakes/index.html

Looks really good. I think I'm going to go down this road. One thing that's holding me back. Do the C5 brakes stick out more then the LT1 brakes? As it is my rims sit close to the brakes. None the less, it looks good.

Re: Fresh C5 Brake Upgrade

Johnny, the calipers are obviously out from the centers further, but they dont really "Stick out" more. If you have 17" wheels, you SHOULD be ok. I know most of the 17" GM wheels fit... I have the 5 spoke ZR1's obviously.

Pipes, The calipers are actually powdercoated grey.. Thats the way I like em.. totally NON-Flashy.

Re: Fresh C5 Brake Upgrade

the c5 brakes fit nicely in my 17" SS wheels. it has been one of my favourite mods to date... its reassuring to be able to stop from triple digit speeds more than 1 time in a row Stock Lt1 brakes werent too happy doing that.

SVThuh:
Looks good! Are those the same ZR1 wheels that "Discount Tire" sells? (17 x 9.5). What Earles brake lines did you get ... there seems to be some confusion about whether to use LS1 lines or C5 Vette lines. Did you do the rear lines too?

Re: Fresh C5 Brake Upgrade

C5 lines are the ones to use due to increased rotor size and added length needed because of it.

Re: Fresh C5 Brake Upgrade

Looks good! I did that on my car back in April and also went with the stock 12.8" rotors and powdercoated grey calipers with the ceramic pads. I'm thinking about getting a set of true 13" aftermarket rotors though.
