front rotors, back rotors?

can front rotors be used in the back, i just got the car and drove about 250 miles home and noticed when i got there that the rear brake rotors were etched and they were pretty much metal on metal. anyway it has upgraded brakes in the front and he gave me all the front brake stuff so if its possible could i just switch the rear rotors with the stock front ones and get new pads or is more modification necessary

No. They are different. Pick up some new ones and get the pads also. Be sure the calipers are moving freely, especially if they were metal on metal as the heat created could've messed them up.

I would take the rotors to a machine shop. There's a chance they're salvageable and will only need to be turned. Could save you some money.
