hal problem

not for my car but for my brothers... he installed QA1 Hals on his car in April last year, so its just been over a year now but about 2 weeks ago the front passenger side started bouncing like crazy. you could go and push down on it while it was parked and it just bounces. the front drivers side was stiff but seems to have gotten a little less stiff...it bounces but not bad, just a little.

Anyone ever have this problem? he got them brand new. could they be going bad only after a year? its not like hes hit a curb or anything...just the normal bumps in the road.

anyone?
thanks!

Re: hal problem

Shoebox and I did the QA1/HAL install at the same time. I'm pretty sure both of his were leaking after the first year. Mine still seem OK after about 5 years, but the tops of the shocks look a little "oily". I don't think they are a very rugged shock. The good news is they can be rebuilt... the bad news is getting them out of a 4th Gen front end.

Re: hal problem

I had a front Hal shock fail at 11K miles (leaking), cost $83 to have it rebuilt.

where did you go to have them rebuilt? how long does it take?

thanks guys for all the help.

the weird thing is that one went out first and now slowly slowly the other is starting to go.

Re: hal problem

Look at the QA1 website, they list authorized dealers. I used a shop in Oregon; they turned it around in about a week.
