Hal QA1's ride height??

Just got a quick question for anyone who has Hal QA1 shocks on the front. Can the ride height be adjusted without a spanner wrench? And if so how can i do it? The coilovers were set as high as they can go when i bought my car and now i'm looking to making the height be more in the middle of them. Any way of doing this?

I'm sure you could use some other tools to adjust the QA1s. But,
considering what the QA1s cost, you should really use the right tool for the job. Get the Spanner wrench. Why risk damaging anything?

It's hard to do, even with the correct spanner wrench.

Re: Hal QA1's ride height??

I will second what shoebox said.. It's quite the pain the **** to adjust the shocks.. THe QA1 spanner wrench sucks.. But once you break the two nuts apart , just keep raising the top one to desired height. Then lock the bottom one tight. There's probably no real way to adjust them on the car that is easy. maybe compressing the spring while mounted to the shock OFF the car. I don't know , I have never tried that. I've adjusted mine on the car slightly. I still need to raise mine up some from how I have mine now.

I have heard of people using bearing to make it easier.

I think the new ones come with a thrust washer (bearing). (or it might be optional)

Re: Hal QA1's ride height??

I applied antisieze grease between the washer and the adjustment nut. This eliminated the binding and made adjustment with the spanner wrench easy.

Yes there is supposed to be some sort of bearing you can buy that helps adjustment. But I got mine used and they didn't have the bearing... Theres bunch of little things you can do with qa1 suspension, you can even run factory springs with i believe it is BMR cups adaptors.

No prob man. I think you will like the shocks in the end. They def are great b/c you can adjust for street and strip in under 5 mins. Turn of the ****. And I've had adjustable KYB AGX before my hal shocks. I sold those.... They are like night and day difference.

How would you get a hoop style oil filter wrench around it? There is no open end to put it on?

An oil filter pliers-gothcha. I wasn't even thinking of one of those, just the slip on style.
