Help bleeding brakes

My car was sitting a while, and the brake pedal goes to the floor now with the car running. I can pump it when the car is off and it will build up the pressure.

I tried bleeding the right rear with a vacuum pump and some fluid came out then stopped. This is an ABS car, so do I have to do anything special for it? I've never done brakes before. Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks.

Re: Help bleeding brakes

ABS unit at front drivers engine bay has two bleed screws, you need to do those first, then right rear, left rear, right front, left front. You want fluid to come out without seeing any air bubbles, use a clear hose on the caliper (or abs) bleed fitting so you can see no bubbles. Do the whole sequence until you see no bubbles, then do it again.

Re: Help bleeding brakes

I used a cheap $5 brake bleeder from autozone- best $5 tool I ever bought. Had all my brakes done by myself faster than the two man 'open, pedal down, closed, pedal up' routine.

Like was stated, make sure you start with the ABS Unit. You will bleed all day trying to fix it and never solve it.

Re: Help bleeding brakes

I would have the master checked. If the brakes pump up, it's a sign of a bad master cylinder. If the pedal feels spongy, it's an indication of air in the lines. Either way you will have to bleed them unless the master cyl. can be replaced without introducing air into the system.
