Help !!! shocks versus struts

I am totally confused on what is on the front of my 99 z28. When I had the new tires put on it looked like it has shocks. When I called pepboys they said it was struts and want a lot more money to install them versus shocks. When I went out to KYB web sight they are showing a part number for both shocks and a diff one for struts for the front, and a totally diff number for the rear shocks, so there is no confusion there hehehe.

So guys which is it, shocks or struts? thanks.

They are shocks. Here's a link to Thunder Racing showing several shocks to fit your car: http://www.thunderracing.com/catalog...&vid=3&pcid=90

Nevermind what different people call what is on the front of a 4th gen. They are coil-over shocks, not struts.

I wouldn't let pep boys touch my car

A 4th gen has a double A arm front suspension with an upright between the A arms that caries the front hub. A strut front suspension has no upper A arm or an upright. The front hub is mounted on the strut body.

The cost of replacing your front shocks will be high, because the complete coil-over spring/shock assembly needs to be removed, and separated.

On the other hand, replacing the rear shocks should take about 15 minutes per side, using a lift.
