How could this have happened to my A-arm??

I was inspecting the under carriage of my car today and saw this:

How could this have happened? I have never hit or run over anything. Car drives fine.

Looks like the threaded end of the LCA broke at the weld where it goes into the tube. Probably caused by either a poor weld or metal fatigue (most likely from the corrosion evident in the pic).

Good thing you caught that now before it seperated completely. You'll definately need to fix that first before you drive it again.

I'd send that back to the manufacturer. They need to know they may have a problem with the design or quality control.

I'm going to call them first thing tomorrow and see if I can send them the pic. This is my daily driver when the weather is dry. It probably sees precipitation only a handful of times each year. They are only 3 1/2 years old with 35K miles on them.

Re: How could this have happened to my A-arm??

Ok, UMI Performance sent a private message to me concerning the A-arms. I called the number and without me saying hardly anything, Jerry, the rep I talked to offered to replace both A-arms and ship them asap since this is my daily driver. That's like a $500 hit that they're taking. They said they had a problem about 5-6 years ago with their welder employee and they thought all the faulty products were out of circulation but I guess I lucked out. I am extremely impressed with UMI for how they helped me today, they succeeded in maintaining a customer
