Question How difficult is it to replace a front wheel bearing?

I have a 95 Firebird, and the shop is telling me the left front wheel bearing is a little loose. Not in a dire need to be replaced yet, but will need to be done soon. I don't know if you need some type of press to press this in, or if this is a deal where you remove a few bolts, take the old bearing out, clean out the goo, put a new bearing in, and grease it up real good, and you are done. I would rather not pay $300+ to do this if it isn't that big of a deal. Thanks.

The hardest part of the job is jacking up the car and removing the wheel.

Seriously, this these cars have sealed bearings and once you get the wheel and brake rotor off it is easy to replace. I don't recall the exact procedure, but I do recall that it was not difficult.

The wheel bearing is part of a complete sealed hub assembly, including ABS sensor. It can not be replaced independantly.

Holly crap that is easy! No having to pack the bearings with grease and seating the seal in or anything! How much do hubs go for?

Autozone has them for $136 by my house. I'll go with them, as Dal has them for $226 + shipping, and gmpartswarehouse.com has them for $200 + overpriced shipping. I can do both for $270 + tax from Autozone, or do one for $240.

Yea.. thats what the Napa here charges and it is the only parts place within 30 miles really.. Parts suck here. even more expensive at a dealer around here.

A few years ago I upgraded my brakes to the 98+ design. I got complete front spindles with hubs/rotors/calipers, etc for $300 from a bone yard. I guess the best part of the deal was the two spare hubs.

Don't over look your local bone yard for some very good low price parts.

Check Auto Zone's internet site. Last year I got a new hub assembly for $110 with free shipping to my door; cheaper than the in store price at my local Auto Zone. They also use Timkon bearings.

If it has any play in it I wouldn't put off replacing it for long. If you want to go cheap. I've got a few good ones laying around from cars I've parted out.

Shoot me a PM

Is a little play bad? And what will happen if I dont replace them soon? Will it seize? What makes it worse is mine is the driver front so I would end up skidding into the oncoming lane :S
