How do I adjust my panhard rod? ---

I got it installed , but now I need to adjust it.
My axle seems to sit a 1/2 inch over to the drivers side. Do I just wrench as hard as I can on the bar with the locknuts applied? I am going to be moving the chassis over the rearend since the car is on the ground right....meaning to move the bar towards the driver side?
If I move it the way I want to .... I feel like I am going to snap the brackets that hold it on. I am sorry but for some reason I cant grasp the concept of this peice of the suspension, lol
thanks---

First thing to do (which i think you are) is to measure the distance off center it is with the suspensions loaded. Ie All 4 tires on the ground with full weight on the car. Measure using a string and nut taped to the body directly above the center of the wheel. Then measure the distance to the center on both sides.
The next part is adjusting, depends on your PHB! Is yours on car adjustable? If you have locknuts on both sides of the bar then yes you basically loosen the locknuts and using a big wrench turn the center piece. it will either move in or out, find out which direction to go by doing 1 or 2 turns and see what the change is on the sides. Adjust until the rear is centered

To check the alignment side-to-side, I'd tend to use something other than the sheetmetal.... in other words don't hang the string off the fender. The fender just adds another level of build tolerance to the equation. Maybe use the distance from the subrame to the axle hub flange.
