How to extend an Ebrake cable to fit? LT1 to LS1 ebrake mod

I have a 96 LT1 camaro.
I recently purchased a an LS1 ebrake cable and LS1 rear calipers/backing plates etc. LT1 axles work fine with LS1 backing plates fyi.

My LS1 ebrake cables come up about 1-2 inches too short to the ebrake attachment that sits above the transmission. So right now they are attached to the rear drums hooks but fall just short of the mechanism that completes the connection to the Ebrake handle. Im exploring my options here. Am I doing something wrong which is why its not reaching? Can i add a cable extension of some kind to give me another 2 inches of length?
