Installing upper and Lower Front Control Arms...

Is there a guide on the net on how to do this?

My parts didn't come with instructions.

Is it really as simple as just estimating how long the adjustment bolts should be? Or do I need to do a wheel alignment?

What arms did you buy? Are they "adjustable" in the sense that they have spherical rod ends that can be screwed in and out of the arms to adjust alignment? What company would sell you parts like these and not provide instructions? Have you asked them for instructions?

The only difficult part of replacing the arms should be getting the spring/shock assembly out. There are a number of online guides to spring/shock replacement that will tell you how to get the spring/shock assembly out of the way. That would get you 1/2-way there.

In any case, you will DEFINITELY need an alignment when you are done.

The lower ones are the easy part. There is a bolt in the back, and a bolt in the slider on the front of the cross member. I had to loosen off the steerng rack to get this bolt out. It jus slides out. Top one is a bit more involved. I would take it out with the spring/shock assembly and do it out of the car.

Even easier... next time when taking the bolts out by the rack&pinion on LCA. You dont need to remove the rack. If you are trying to get out the driverside front LCA bolt, turn the wheel to full right (pass.side).Same if working one passengerside LCA turn the wheel full left (driverside)The plastic and rod will move inboard/retract and sag down outa the way leaving plenty to slide it out.Providing you have tie rod end removed from spindle already.

Gripenfelter that does suck you did not get instructions. But if you just call and find out some special treatment needed (doubt it) other than just adjusting them the the correct length. You have to do some measuring and some more measuring,so I have heard. Some alignments taking upwards of a day just fussing with taking them off, adjusting ,etc. etc.

But when I was thinking about do them at one time. I had it in my mind that I would have to sit and put some bolts in the holes measure as accurate as possible the 2 arms side by side.Find a way to get as close to the original triangle as possible.Including once they meet the size of stock arm,put the arm back on the car in the same loc. as the original ones. The scar made by the bolts to the frame mounts will tell where to tighten it down or close to.Then have the shop do the rest according to the specific alignment I wanted and hope you got it close .

They(makers of adjustable LCAs) should find a way to get these arms to adjust on the car. In a lefthand ,righthand threaded collar. 2 ends verses the one end deal now.
All I have is a shock R&R I-net write up and a brake&spindle swap one none will really get all you need. I used the manual for questions I had on this project .Which I ended up doing 1LE lowers and Global west uppers in stead of what you are doing.

Re: Installing upper and Lower Front Control Arms...

Thanx for the info guys.

The company is:

http://www.profabracing.homestead.com/

They had a special on...

K member + lower control arms for $400.

You can phone and ask them. They might still be able to do it for anyone interested. They suck when it comes to replying to email but they make a good product from what I can see.

They have spherical rod ends on the top and bottom. Ugh.
