LCA and SFC questions?

I am looking to purchase LCA's in the future, which are stronger, the BMR boxed or tubular chromoly?

And also, at my school we have a welding shop, anyone think a beginning welder could install SFC's right? Or do you have to be exact with the weld points?

Thanks a lot guys

Re: LCA and SFC questions?

The chrome moly and the boxed designs will probably be close to each other in terms of strength. The difference though is that the boxed design will sacrifice ground clearance a little more due to its bulkier design. Also, it might be worthwhile to just have someone install the SFCs. The welding should be the least of your worries, but what should is the fuel lines and other things around there. Most shops charge 50.00 to 75.00 to install these things. Also, check www.bmrfabrication.com , they can answer alot of your questions as well.

Re: LCA and SFC questions?

Spohn & UMI cost less and have great quality. BMR has had some quality issues in the past.

Tubular is torsionally stronger than boxed at a given crossectional area. What that means is the only way boxed is stronger is by being larger by comparison. Seriously you're comparing a 1 5/8" tubular to a 2" boxed. If they made a 2" tubular there would be no need for comparison.

IMO, get boxed SFC if you want to be able to see them easily and if you want the whole side to be a jack point.

You'll never know the diff between the 2 w/LCAs. On LCAs you should be asking yourself what type of ends you want.

Re: LCA and SFC questions?

Don't worry about all the fokls crying about Quality Control issues. There is no company actively producing any item that has not, nor will they never have had QC issues. From computers to automotive to food. All companies have trouble from time to time. The fact that some haven't yet means they will in the future, unavoidable. And not always under their control, sometimes its bad materials delivered to them for use. And sometimes its the installer doing a bad job, or the owner taking them beyond the parts tolerances and breaking it.

I have BMR STB and SFC's. got them on sales so they didnt cost as much, plus it was before their price increase. I also have UMI LCA and PHR. all good stuff.
