Loose stearing

Ok, I installed headers in winter. Had to remove the steering arm. The steeringwheel now feels very very lose. I haven't driver. First time its been driver snice the headers. What adjustments can i make to the seering arm to tighten the wheel back up.

Edit: By loose I mean the steering wheel has a lot of play in it.

Re: Loose stearing

You can adjust steering bearing preload, guide found on shoebox's site.
You can get a ragjoint eliminator for 35$
You may also need new tie rod ends.
Id take it in to get checked if you don't know what you are doing, something isn't hooked up right and it may cause an accident down the road.

Re: Loose stearing

Loose all the time, or more loose after the engine's heated up? I know many have complained that their long tubes have melted away some of the rag joint.

Little round rubber bushing rivetted inbetween the top and bottom of the steering linkage.

Re: Loose stearing

If the steering wasn't loose before the header install, then double check your installation of the steering linkage. My loose steering issue was play in the pinion gear; it would move up and down about a half inch. The rack had 146K miles so I just replaced the whole rack assembly.

Re: Loose stearing

I got a Cardone steering rack off the internet for $130. Looks like an exact replacement. Came with the inner tie rods and boots.

Re: Loose stearing

Many distributors carry Cardone parts. Just do a Google search.
