Talking LS1 Brake Conversion!!!(pics within)

Did the upgrade last week, and all I have to say is, HELL YEAH! These things rock! Not only do they look awesome, they also stop awesome. Granted, I didnt do the install myself, my friend Justin did it, but it didnt look that hard. If you have some mechanical inclination, which I dont have much of, you can easily do this. The only thing that I needed to do in addition to the actual install was get an alignment.

Heres a few pics of the install!!!

Re: LS1 Brake Conversion!!!

Did you end up using the LT1 or LS1 brake lines?

Thanks,
Rob

Re: LS1 Brake Conversion!!!

Ended up using the LS1 lines. Didnt think we would, but the way we bent the bracket, it worked better. If we had initially tried the LT1 lines, they probably would have worked. You just need to play around with it and make sure that when your wheels are turned to lock, that the brake line is not taut.

Re: LS1 Brake Conversion!!!

i had all 4 corners on my car converted to 98+ brakes with Poweslot rotors and Howk pads up front and It was unbelieveable how much of a difference it made! I put stock brakes back on the car when I sold it and could not believe how crappy theu were.

Yeah, its like a night and day difference. They feel much more positive and powerful. Also had a chance to see the difference in rain, and it was impressive as well. I Love these things!

Re: LS1 Brake Conversion!!!

Man, this mod is HIGH on the list of things to do, the LT1 brakes are a joke, I hate driving on the highway in the rain, cuz if I have to slow down I'm going to need a LOT of room.

Is there a walkthrough typed up for this mod yet?

Re: LS1 Brake Conversion!!!

How much Weight did it add if you measured? I am into the drag race set up know and dont want to add alot of rotating mass. I do like bigger brakes But I was wanting to know how many rotating pounds this will add.

Re: LS1 Brake Conversion!!!

Didnt measure them, but if i had to guess, id say it didnt add much if any. While the rotors are definetely bigger, it cant be much weight, a few pounds maybe. And then everything else is basically the same. The LS1 Calipers are larger, but are aluminum, so that negates the weight increase over the smaller but steel LT1 Calipers. If you are trying to keep every single pound off the car, then maybe dont do it, but in my opinion, they look alot better, stop alot better, and only add a minimal amount of weight.

Will swapping out the brakes always create a need for re-alignment?

Re: LS1 Brake Conversion!!!

I dont think so, im pretty sure ive read some posts where they didnt need to, but most do. So there is definetely a possibility that you will need to get one.

Thanks man. BTW, it looks good especially with the different rotors. I hope to get this done myself.

Re: LS1 Brake Conversion!!!

Actually the more I think about it, I really think there is actually no difference between the 2 setups. Here is my thinking:
More weight for LS1 Setup-Larger rotors, roughly an inch bigger diameter.
Less Weight for LS1 Setup-Aluminum Caliper, Spindle without 2 "ears"
While I did not actually measure the actual weights, thinking through it logically, there is no way that the setup can actually much, if ANY weight.

Re: LS1 Brake Conversion!!!

I would say that so far, the LS1 brake upgrade was the best money I spent on my T/A. I have pics in the sig. I like the color of your car.
