LS1/LT1 Rear Brake Difference ?'s

Hey everyone, I need some help quickly. I came across a deal on a S60 rear end out of a 2000 Firebird and hopefully I'm going to swap + cash for my LT1 axle but I need to know if I can put his LS1 brakes on my LT1 axle and my LT1 brakes on the S60 that has LS1 brakes on it right now. Is it simply just pulling the axles out and swapping backing plates or is there something else I'm not aware of?

Thanks!!

Make sure both rears use the same abs system. If your car is abs only make sure the new rear is too or if yours has traction control make sure the new one is from a traction control car. The abs only rear has one sensor on the top of the axle housing and the traction control rear has two sensors. One at the end of each axle.

The easiest way to swap them would be to swap the whole rear including the brakes. Then you would just need to use the LS1 emergency brake cables and everything else would just bolt up. If you have to use your LT1 brakes you will need to use your LT1 axle shafts, backing plates, and brake hard lines. The LT1 and LS1 axle shafts are different lengths. There also may be a shim between the axle housing and the backing plate.

My car has the ABS deleted because it's a drag car more or less so I'm good on that part and no TCS/ASR.

The rear end is a S60 that currently has LS1 brakes on it, so using my LT1 axles isn't an option. I guess I'll have to use the complete assembly and find a new set of longer e-brake cables for my LT1 car.

I didn't notice you weren't talking about a stock rear. I don't know anything about a s60 rear. LT1 and LS1 axles are only slightly different lengths. I would guess that if the calipers line up over the rotors when the LT1 brakes are bolted on then they would work fine.
