After replacing my LT1 front brakes with the LS1 brakes, will i need a wheel alignment? If so, how bad will it be?

I haven't had mine aligned and havn't noticed any problems. My tires are old. If they were newer I would get it aligned.

Either way unless the uprights are bent it shouldn't be off much.

I did the job about 2 weeks ago, and just finally got around to getting an alignment the day before yesterday. The car was off by quite a bit... the printout is in the car... I'll get it and post hard numbers tonight. I'd definately suggest getting an alignment after installing the brakes.

You will need an alignment.
The spindles came from different castings.

No, the car is definately driveable. I went ~100 miles or so before finally making it to the shop. It probably wasnt good for my tires, but I did it.

Since you changle the knuckles/spindles with the LS1 conversion, you WILL want to get an alignment. If it happens to line up good, you got lucky. I would take it in as soon as you can, or your tires may pay the price, or it won't handle all that well.

No, you dont need them, but they dont hurt to have. I re-used my stock LT1 lines, but I had to modify the brackets to get them to work. I had to extend the brackets about an inch outwards from the center of the car.

in that how to, it shows the calipar on teh front side of the rotor near the front of the car.

I am in the process now taking them off my brothers LS1 car in the front and it has them on the rear side towards teh back of the car!


Why must you extend the brakeline? i think he had to extend it because he placed the calipar on the wrong side of the rotor!

any ideas?

It's called the opposite side of the car. In the pic, look where the caliper is then look where the sway bar is.

The lines are different. LS1 lines have an L shaped metal section which extends the brake line away from the caliper, before running to the metal brakeline on the car's body. LT1 dont have this metal "L" section. I believe this is to keep the lines from rubbing against the LS1 caliper and possibly wearing. I just wrapped my brake line in heater hose to protect it from any possible rubbing damange.

As for the length issue, it seems to vary from car to car. The only thing to do is just check after you install the brakes and turn the wheel from lock to lock while someone makes sure that nothing is getting ripped apart. The last thing you want is a brake line being ripped while driving and your pedal going to the floor when you try to stop.

Some people bend their brake lines brackest and get away wiht it. I just got one of those thin strips of metal with holes punched every inch or so, then cut and bent it to make a custom bracket.
