need help removing steering rack

I'm trying to remove the rack and pinion on my 95 camaro z28. Removed the two bolts from the k-member and disconnected all the lines but how do I disconnect the steering shaft from the rack?

Where I have circled in the picture there was a bolt that I removed, but it seems like there's something else holding it together because it didnt want to come off. I've never done this before so wanted to see if you guys could give me any tips before I really screw something up. Thanks

There is a second bolt at the other end of the coupler, up closer to the firewall. The couplers are designed to telescope into its self but due to rust they tend to stick. Try removing the other bolt.

When I was at that point I just started cranking on the rack. It came out after about 15 minutes of pulling and yanking. I did not undo more than the 3 bolts you mention.

Re: need help removing steering rack

I took a hammer and pounded upwards on it. Came off in a couple hits.
