Noob - looking for advice on shocks/suspension

I have a 98 Z28 that I'm in the process of modding. Everything is factory now except for ram air intake and new lid. Car has over 100,000 now, exterior still looks new but the ride is getting kinda crappy. I know it needs new shocks and I'm also in the future going to upgrade to 275/45 or 40/17 inch tires on new 17 inch rims. I currently have the stock 16's.

I need some advise. I'm calling some shops around town and they are all recommending me various packages and whatnot, insisting I need to package the tires/rims and shocks together to get the desired ride but I am also aware of the fact they are trying to sell me a product. I thought I'd come here and pick the minds of those experienced with this before I did anything.

I would like to stay reasonable with prices on these, but have a quality ride at the same that which is responsive but yet not making you feel every crack in the road. Is there a particular brand and model of shock that I should be focusing on? And does it make a difference what tire/rim I get as well? I love my car, but man there is a lot to do on it to get it where I want it to be and the weather is getting warmer in a hurry!

Thanx for any help

The Bilsteins will be the best bang for the buck shock in terms of handling and in cost.

Thanx, any particular model? I went on ebay and found various model numbers for sale. Anyone else here use Bilsteins, and if so what model?

The larger wheels will make the ride more stiff due to less sidewall, i would recoment the 40 series tire because its pretty much the same diamater as stock . Assuming your car is not lowered and you dont plan to lower it, bilsteins are a good choice and i would recomend talking to sam from http://www.stranoparts.com/index.php to order the right set.
