Re: power brakes from power steering?

i don't know if its really an aftermarket product but i know GM use to do it on older pick ups. Maybe in the 80's. In my auto mechanics class there was an old 454 dually GM pickup and it had the power brake that ran off the power steering pump.

Re: power brakes from power steering?

A lot of the larger trucks, 3/4 to 1 ton, use this setup. Instead of having a vacuum booster, there is a piece in its place that uses power steering for the brakes. I don't know of any aftermarket on this part either but I have seen it used on applications other than intended with great success.

I'm helping a friend build a kit car Cobra (Factory Five Kit). It's using a 1996 Ford 4.6 4V motor that uses this type of brake system. It's called Hydroboost. High pressure line from the power steering pump feeds a hydraulic system attached to the front of the brake master cylinder.
