Power steering reservor smoking

I took a spirited drive through the canyons
So I start to see smoke so I pull over and my power steering reservor is smoking my steering was still tight so I let it cool down. Any thoughts? Did it just get to hot? 30 min run in 100+ degree weather.

Re: Power steering reservor smoking

power steering fluid has the same basic properties of automatic transmission fluid, a.m.o.f. some german cars use atf for power steering, my point is that u can use a tranny cooler for your powersteering if it becomes a serious issue

of course, if u just overfilled the reservoir, alot of turning could cause the fluid to spill out burning itself on the belts or the block
