Pressing out ball joints?

I have my lower a arms off the Z and need to replace the lower ball joints... I have a ball joint press, but I'm not sure which direction I should be pressing...

to remove the ball joint, do I press down from the direction of the stud side?

or

do I press up from the direction of the grease fitting?

I have the Helms manual and the diagram in it isn't clear to me...

Thanks,
Steve

Yes, press it out from the top (stud side) thru the bottom. Put the new one in from the bottom and press it up into place.

Re: Pressing out ball joints?

That's what I thought based on the pictures in the helms manual and the info on Shoebox's site... Unfortunately even with the ball joint press and my impact gun, I still can't press those things out... I'm going to try to take them to a machine shop and have them pressed tomorrow...

Thanks,
Steve
