rack and pinion

i am getting some slack in my steering. I repaced the rag joint a while back on fixed the problem but it it back. the steering is solid up to the rack. has anyone had luck with a reman rack for place like auto zone or pep boys or soforth? also does anyone know the part number for a gm rack?

Jack the car up and have a friend turn the steering back and forth while you inspect the steering linkage. I found that my pinion gear was moving in and out of the rack causing my slop. I bought a replacment rack through the internet and it was identical to the stock GM piece. It came with new inner tie rods; just needed to replace or swap the outer tie rods.
