While putting on my new springs and new shocks I noticed the rear bump stops are rotted or missing. The new ones should be here today.

The car is lowered about 1.5". When putting the stops on should I shave them, or leave them stock?

I thought I should shave them 1.5" to match the shorter springs, but it back axle will hit the underside of the car before contacting the stop, that's not a good idea.

The bump stops prevent the chassis from slamming into the axle housings. Also prevents the shocks from over-compressing, which can damage the shocks. Good idea to have the bump stops, even if they are cut down slightly. But cutting them down 1.5" sounds excessive.

First if your car has the 1/2 inch bumpstop spacers in the rear remove them!Then try them first for a week or two stock . if you still think you really need to, cut 1/2 inch off then drive it for a week or two; but don't cut no more than 1 inch maximum , and only if you have the hard (light yellow)bumpstops ,not the soft(light brown) ones . I have the hard (light yellow) rear bumpstops on my car and have 1 inch cut off , but I also have air ride springs instead of coilsprings in the rear suspension and they don't bottom out a easy as the lowering springs I've had in my car before.

I did not realize the colors meant anything, that's funny. I have one of each, hard and soft. I ordered 2 and that was what they gave me. They are on the car at full height and will try that for a while.

I didn't either at first, not until I had several sets of the soft (light brown)bumpstops and the last set I bought were the hard(light yellow) bump stops. IMO, If you got them at a dealership in town I would go tell them you need to get two of the same either both soft or both hard, not both!
