!rearjounce bumpers traction mod?

I saw something somewhere and I don't know if i read it right or not but I saw something about if you remove the rear jounce bumpers, you can make more traction. It made a little sense since it is somewhat like relocation brackets because the rear end has more room to travel without being stopped. Is this true or should i leave them there? Also, say it was a traction mod and i did bottom out, could i cause any damage to anything other than a rough ride on the inside?
