retrieve abs codes?

i have a 95 z28 and my "brake light" on my dash won't go off. narrowed it down that if i unplug the brake control module the light goes off so it leads me to believe that there may be a code in there. abs also kicked it before when i was stopping at a light for no reason. i'm guessing a wheel speed sensor. but before i go and start buying parts and guessing i like to pull that code to have an even better idea what it is. i saw real expensive abs scanners online like tech 1 but will that actron one work. part #cp9449 ? it had a list on their site but didn't list my year. has anyone used this and know if it will work on my car??

The "BRAKE" light (if that's the light you are talking about) indicates uneven pressure in the front and rear braking systems. It is triggered by the switch on the side of the ABS unit, where the front and rear lines from the master cylinder connect. Generally, if you have an ABS problem, you will get the "ABS INOP" light.

Try unplugging the parking brake switch and see if the light goes off. It's under the console on the parking brake lever. If that doesn't do anything I would bleed the brakes.

Re: retrieve abs codes?

plugged the brake control module back in and now my "brake" light works fine but the abs inop light stays on. this thing is crazy!! maybe just had to reset. i know that i must have a abs code though because they did act up before so i pulled the relay for the summer. wheel sensor maybe because i was comming to a stop slowly at about 10mph and they kicked in a few times. relay is back in now. saw on other posts that a tech 1 will scan it but it's expensive. holy crap expensive!!! ill can get another car for that price. anyone know it there's a cheaper one for my 95 out there?? even maybe software you can run on a laptop??
