SFC Help

I am looking at getting some BMR boxed subframe connectors for my car and was wondering what the difference in strength is between the bolt-in and weld-on styles? I figured that weld-in was better but I had a shop quote me for $140 for the welding alone which I think is rediculous. How much should welding cost?

Re: SFC Help

I have Competition Engineering bolt in sfc's. I bolted them in and then welded them when I bought a new welder from Harbor Freight for a $120. The Comp sfc's welded in real easy and nice and clean. I welded in a set of BMR weld in sfc's for a friend of mine. It was a real pain in the a$$. They did not fit that great and I had to build the welds up like a 1/4" in some spots. It made the welds look bad. I did not like having to do that.
As for the welding shop charging a $140. to weld them in is way to much. If you lived in Florida I would only charge you $30. If your going to spend the money I would just buy the Harbor Freight welder and do it my self.

Re: SFC Help

BMR boxed SFC's are only welded on the front, cost me $60 in Jax (1st place I went) - make sure the rear bolts are TIGHT or you'll get a clunk. If you go with full weld-ons throw them in the car and visit some local muffler shops so they can see what's involved.

You are supposed to weld the rear too, even though you bolt through them in the back.

Re: SFC Help

The tubulars are like that also. Instructions do say to weld the rear.
The hole is just for the LCA bolt to go through.
