Should I rebuild my brake calipers???

I'm going to replace the front rotors and pads on my car soon. The pads were replaced about 15,000 miles ago and the rotors were turned. Since then the rotors have warped, and my mechanic said they are too far out of spec to regrind, so its new rotor time. I've driven about 7500 miles with the warped rotors. I don't autocross, road race, or really ride the brakes hard in my daily driving. Do you think I should rebuild the calipers??? The car has 68K on it by the way. This will be my first brake job BTW.

Re: Should I rebuild my brake calipers???

I hear you only need to rebuild them if the leak or clearly don't work at all. Don't get slotted or drilled rotors, they are weaker and seem to only be for show. Since you already warped those, you may not want to mess with the weak ones. I'd flush the system with new fluid one way or another, i emptiecd out the old stuff which was full of black gunk and air, car stops much better, firmer pedal, and abs works.

Re: Should I rebuild my brake calipers???

Okay, I'll order the rebuild kits and decide if I want to do it when I take the brakes apart. If the seal on the pistions looks good, I won't worry about it. How do I flush all the brake fluid out of the system? I'm kind of worried it might be more than warped rotors because the dead spot in the pedal(how much the pedal travels to before the brakes actually work) has gotten longer as the miles have piled up.

Mine has 105k and all I've done is kept the caliper pins greased each time I change pads. The pistons are still nice and tight and move smoothly with the c-clamp, no leaks.
