Spohn Torque Arm Question

Spohn Torque Arm Question
Installed the spohn adjustable torque arm for LT's and put the pinion angle at -1 degrees. When backing up and shifting sometimes I get a clunking noise...Is this normal?

Re: Spohn Torque Arm Question
I don't know which Spohn's torque arm version you have but yes the "clunk noise" is normal...You will have to use to it....My 97 Transam has installed the 2nd version, I guess (the piston-like version) and I've noticed that adjusting the pinion angle between -1 and -2 the clunk noise is less frecuently.

Re: Spohn Torque Arm Question
If you have the front rod end like I have there will be some noise, but nothing hard. The hard noise is the vibration at about 5000+ rpm where the rear play and exhaust vibrations get fed thru the chassis.
Make sure you lubed up the front good. You might have a bad u joint, or one ready to go that is feeding the noise thru.... my guess is that is what your hearing.
This piece really brought everything together for me, she really rips now. Of course, I have all the rest of the pieces already on there so there isn't anything left to bend. (lca's, panard bar)
It truely is a beautiful piece. Feels like the car is going to shake apart at 6000 rpm, but it rips second gear dead straight and keeps pulling. No twist or delay like the stock piece. Got me to finally trip those ls1's up and watch their mouths drop as I keep moving away all the way to 150.

Tighten the rear bolts in the adapter plate seriously tight, the 2-5/8" that are parallel to the ground. In ours the ends on the arm are bigger than the bolt and they can move. Possibly your clunk. As it wears the clunk will come back. The way to fix it is 2 chrome moly heim ends back there instead of the solid ones(spendy--$60.00)

Re: Spohn Torque Arm Question
Clunks are not normal with that arm when the bolts are tight. I had the same problem. Clunks backing up, sometimes shifting. All went away after I tightened the heck out of the rear bolts/nuts back by the diff. And I mean tight. They may seem tight at first, but you gotta crank on them. Try it and see what happens.
