Squeaky front wheels...

'97 Z28 - Silver
A few weeks ago my drivers side front tire started squeaking/chirping as if the brake pads were getting worn. (They're due so that's not suprising to me.) However, it doesn't squeak when the brakes are applied. It just squeaks while driving. Braking will sometimes stop it but not always. Now the passenger side front tire is exhibiting the same condition. Turning on the highway seems to affect it as well.

I'm on my snow tire wheels (cheap ones) and I had this problem lightly last year just before I switched to my summer tires but when I switched back to my summer tire wheels (the stock mag ones that came with it) the squeak went away. I'm still on my snow tire wheels now (I need new summer tires and they're back ordered at the moment) so I was thinking it might be related.

I've searched on this forum and it looks like it IS the brake pads and the calipers are just "floating" and shifting.

Anyone else have any thoughts on this?

Re: Squeaky front wheels...

Since you stated you were due for new brake pads anyway, why not fix that and see if the problem goes away.

Re: Squeaky front wheels...

get new pads (ceramic so they'll never squeak) and resurface or get new rotors. if they still squeak get new wheel bearings

Re: Squeaky front wheels...

Just FYI...

It was the brakes.

I thought the telltales alerting that the pads were worn wouldn't squeak unless the brakes were actually being used though?
