Steering column ????

Steering column ????
I have the wheel off and I'm stripping down the wiring to get rid of the things that I will no longer need. My question is what is the ring called a "coil ASM infl restraint" on SHBOX's site, for? Can I remove it? If so how? The Link below shows it and has it labeled as # 3.
To better assist the information I'm replacing steering wheel with a grant unit and won't need the airbag ever again.

Jim.
Follow the yellow wire harness from the the coil assembly (also called a clockspring) to the base of the column. there is a connector, just pull it apart and pull the whole assembly up through the top of the column. There is a snap ring that holds the coil in place (#2 in the diagram) that you need to get out in order to remove the assembly. Not a difficult task.
Just remember that the airbag light will stay on with the air bag disconnected. To disable the light. you need to cut the brown wire at the control unit which is under the center console.

Thanks for the info. Not to worried about lights. The whole car is stripped to its most simple form. The car's going back together as a SBC 427 pro street car.
The clip, #2, is whats holding me up. I'll try and get back on that once I've gotten my radiator mounted.
Thanks for the help guys it is very much appreciated.
