steering problems
So I went to get my oil changed and to get the car inspected. I bought it roughly a month ago and was planning on racing for the first time last night but come to find our the rack in my steering is broken. They want like $720 or something to fix it. Anyone else had this problem? Is that price high?

Re: steering problems
Is there a how to on the steering rack install mine is leaking a lil if I cant fix it ill just get another one at 200 that isnt too bad. How do you get the air out of the system also when installing one. As far as unbolting and bolting up that is strait forward but I never messed with a steering rack before.

Re: steering problems
Shoebox has a how to to bleed the steering system: http://shbox.com/1/4th_gen_tech2.html#psflush
As far as the installation, the rack bolts to the K member with 2 bolts. The tie rod ends need to be removed from the steering knuckles. The steering gear coupling shaft (connects the steering column to the rack) unbolts from the pinion gear (note: do not turn the steering wheel more than 1 revolution either way when the coupler is removed, your will damaged your air bag coil) and the 2 power steering lines need to be disconnected from the rack (use line wrenches).
Usually the new rack comes with inner tie rods and boots; you can either transfer your old outer tie rod ends to the new rack and buy new ones. Take note of the outer tie rod location on the rack so that you mount them in the same location on the new rack. This will get your alignment close; you should still have the car aligned when you're done otherwise your toe-in will be off.

Shoebox's site also has a drawing of the exploded view of the steering rack:
